What is Charity Poker Night?
Charity Poker Night is a charity poker tournament designed to identify the best no limit Texas Hold’em player through a series of elimination rounds. Players buy into the tournament, paying a fixed fee of $120 that is good for an appetizer, a free margarita, and their first stack of chips. If you lose all your chips, you will be offered a “re-buy” of 100 additional chips. If you decline the “re-buy” you are eliminated from further competition.
What if I don’t know how to play?
That’s okay… What a better place to learn than with friends promoting a great cause…. Come join us! There will be a short in-person tutorial at 6:15 for those who would like to learn how to play Texas Hold ‘Em. Players compete in hands of no-limit Texas Hold’em. In each hand, players are dealt two private cards and use five shared community cards to make the best five-card poker hand. Players bet, raise, call, or fold based on their hand strength and strategy. Since it is “no-limit,” a player can bet all of their remaining chips at any time. The tournament continues until one player has all the chips, making them the grand prize winner of the Cinco de Mayo tournament. If you want to join the fun but don’t want to play, you can purchase a non-player ticket for $40.
How many “levels” will there be?
There will be 3 levels, each with increasing blinds and antes (forced bets). At the start, blinds are low, giving players room to play strategically. As levels progress, the blinds rise, forcing action and preventing players from waiting indefinitely for strong hands. Each level will last 15 minutes. Players are seated at multiple tables at the beginning. As players are eliminated, tables are balanced and consolidated so that all remaining players have roughly the same number of opponents. Eventually, when only a few players remain, the tournament reaches the final table, usually consisting of six players.
Will there be other activities besides poker?
Interspersed between rounds of poker, we will run a live auction showcasing items such as vacation rental properties, jewelry, whiskey tasting, private chef dinner, and more! There will be a silent auction conducted throughout the evening. A cash bar and Mexican fare will be available throughout the evening.
