Supporting Ambitions Through Education

Fueled by a desire to demonstrate the importance that our group places on education and a desire to visibly contribute to our community, the Hood County Democrats began this effort in 2020.  The Joyce Carver Memorial Scholarship was created at that time in memory of our beloved friend. Joyce was a scholar, an athlete, and a staunch supporter of human rights.  She was an active member of the Hood County Democrats and epitomized their humanitarian ideals.  She valued learning and believed that affordable access to secondary education was the key to keeping our democracy vibrant and healthy.

Empowering Students to Realize Their Academic Dreams

Every year, we have awarded more scholarships and our eventual goal is to create an endowment that will further this important work. Last year we gave 4 $1,000 scholarships and decided to expand our reach by creating a scholarship geared toward students who want to pursue certification in a trade as opposed to a college degree. With that in mind, we changed our name to the American Dream Fund and applied to become a nonprofit with the assistance of George Freeman.

We believe in the potential offered by this great country of ours where, as James Adams once said, “each man and each woman shall be able to attain their the fullest stature to which they are capable and be recognized by others for what they are, regardless of the fortuitous circumstances of birth or position”. We thank all our contributors for keeping the American Dream alive.

American Dream Fund Tax Exempt Status

Our certified 501c3 nonprofit raises funds for Hood County public high school graduates to pursue their own American Dream, whether it be through a 4 year degree or certification in a trade.
